Not since Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal have I really been a fan of any other local loveteam until LizQuen. The few times I’ve caught Enrique Gil and/or Liza Soberano, on screen or in person, have convinced me that these two belong to an increasingly rare breed of Filipino celebrity: that which genuinely has what it takes. The most recent movie I watched with my family was their romantic dramedy Every Day I Love You. It was cute, and additionally cool because it’s set near our house in Negros and the cast spoke some Hiligaynon. Liza, especially, just lights up the screen with her childlike charm and radiant beauty. No surprise then, that Liza Soberano has just been chosen as the newest Filipina endorser of global makeup brand, Maybelline New York.
The newest Maybelline Girl – Liza Soberano
Maybelline New York’s anthem of late has been “Make It Happen,” with its continued vision to inspire girls to achieve their dreams with confidence and beauty. Filipina-American Liza Soberano has this unique mix of youthfulness, style, and boldness that makes her the perfect fit. As the newest face of Maybelline, she represents those who are empowered, motivated, and empowered to #makeithappen in life. This also means Liza Soberano is right up there with the brand’s squad of global ambassadors like Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Emily Didonato, Jourdan Dunn, and fellow Maybelline Girl Georgina Wilson.
For a few weeks before the big reveal, Maybelline Philippines kept fans guessing with their teaser ads and videos. Even at the launch event held in Green Sun on August 3, people people were dropping names of their bets. While several came up, the public clamor seemed to be for Liza Soberano. She is, after all, one of today’s most beautiful faces in the Philippine if not the global entertainment industry. She’s young, she’s vibrant, she’s regarded as a role model for teen girls, and she would be the perfect addition to the Maybelline squad.
The event was not only for Maybelline to make the announcement, but also to launch its biggest products to date. We were invited to go around the different booths and try out Maybelline New York’s newest collections.
Creamy Matte brown nudes
My first stop was at the booth for Maybelline Creamy Mattes by Color Sensational. See those balloons on the lips-shaped shelf? You throw a dart and if you pop a balloon, you win a lippie for free! I didn’t get one, but it was fun to play.
The Creamy Mattes lipstick collection is a modern take on the brown lip craze of the ’90s (ties in pretty nicely with my Marvin-Jolina reference, eh?) with a bold, luxurious finish. Clay Crush takes the cake for me.
More ’90s references on this awesome flatlay station! How many can you spot?
I may or may not have owned a Backstreet Boys cassette tape. It may or may not have been played endlessly in grade school. And that pink Motorola Razr may or may not look like the one I used to have.
Fashion Brow Duo Shaper pen
Next was the booth for the Maybelline Fashion Brow Duo Shaper. You get to pick a New York-inspired beauty look—mine was Brooklyn Babe—and color the eyebrows with the double-edged pen.
Maybelline Fashion Brow Duo Shaper comes in four shades: dark brown, natural, chestnut, and blonde brown. One end is a precise pencil for outlining the shape. The other has a spongy, powdery tip for blending. The result is a fuller, barely-there look.
Being slightly OC, I had to ask the staff if I could color the hair as well…
Clear Smooth All-In-One powder foundation
At the booth for Maybelline Clear Smooth All-In-One powder foundation, you can just sit back and have a touch-up. The powder promises shine-free, flawless coverage that’s so lightweight, it looks more natural and less cakey.
Near the flatlay station was a photobooth to document our mini makeovers.
“With great powder comes great responsibility,” says… Spowderman? I’m sorry.
Maybelline new York Must-Haves of the Moment. Fashion Brow Duo Shaper, Creamy Matte Brown Nudes, Clear Smooth All-In-One Powder. The key to this trend is a low-key look with an edgy twist.
Which, incidentally, seems to describe my OOTD. Zara top and skorts, Forever 21 heels.
From Silay Scooter Girl to Maybelline Girl on a scooter – Liza Soberano
At the entrance of the Maybelline event was this shiny pink Vespa. A lot of us thought it was just there for decorative purposes. Little did I know, it was a clue on the newest Maybelline ambassador, right under my nose.
The show began with a presentation of New York-inspired street fashion looks. Everything was on the minimalist side, with just blacks and whites to highlight the latest Maybelline makeup collections. It momentarily distracted us for the main event…
Amid the roaring of both engines and audiences, who else would suddenly come riding in on a pink Vespa but Silay Scooter Girl herself: Liza Soberano! Even in her sleek biker-chick ensemble, Liza looked as sweet as cotton candy.
At the reveal, Liza expressed her excitement and gratitude to Maybelline for the opportunity to inspire more young Filipinas to define their own beauty, express themselves with confidence, and make their mark in life. “Maybelline New York has always been a dream brand for me. It’s the makeup I grew up with, from my very first lip balm, to my first mascara, to discovering more amazing Maybelline products that perfectly complement the lifestyle of girls in this day and age,” she said.
“I believe makeup plays an important part in building the confidence to feel beautiful,” Liza added. “Women should feel confident innately, and makeup gives them the extra boost they need. I’m honored to take on this new role, proudly representing a brand that sparks courage and fuels the belief that confidence can take girls from all walks of life to places.”
Oh, Liza Soberano. The places you’ll go! #LizaForMaybelline
