It’s not too often I get to whip out this badass leather jacket, but the occasion called for it. At the risk of looking like a poser—I do ride bikes, just not the “big” kind—the chance to play dress-up as a biker chick at the launch of TW Steel’s Maverick Collection was too good to pass up.

Dutch global lifestyle brand TW Steel (“The Watch in Steel”) Chief Designer Ton Cobelens recently collaborated with Amsterdam-based custom motorcycle builder Roderick Seibert for a project called Son of Time, building a unique one-off custom motorcycle and a matching unique timepiece.
The Son of Time created so much noise it was clear the market was ready for a full TW Steel collection to mix their bold attitude and big styling with a new take on the Sport Heritage world. Hence, the Maverick Collection. Inspired by the Son of Time, the collection takes TW Steel’s bold attitude, blends in cool vintage styling and twists it all together to deliver a totally fresh take on time.
The Maverick Collection features a total of 42 different executions in 45mm and 48mm. Each design comes in three versions: a clean three-hand that comes with a Miyota 2417 movement (brushed case and bezel), a chrono powered by a big calibre 6S21 movement (two chrono eyes and a shiny case and bezel), and an equally impressive automatic that houses a Seiko NH35 movement with an exclusive Geneva pattern rotor. The PVD black-coated designs come with a matte sandblasted finish.
These designs are set off by a choice of a vintage-inspired leather strap with bold stitching detail, or a steel Milanese bracelet. All leather strap models come with the popular Quick-Change feature, as well as double-layered sandwich dials for added depth and focus.
I don’t know anyone more into sport heritage than this guy, so I brought him along. Anton was rightly pleased with TW Steel’s Maverick Collection.

Sick burn-out! The only type I experience is from spending too much time working. Ha!
I may not know how to ride these things, but man, they sure are pretty.
In the middle of the ruckus, who do I run into but a childhood friend! Long story short, Dianne and I met when we were 10. We went to the same schools, drifted apart, and ended up working in the same industry. Despite our small world, this was the first time we crossed paths in a decade, incidentally a couple of years after my turbulent maelstrom of a personal life finally settled into a peaceful lull. I’m hoping this is a sign to include that part of my life in the making-amends department.
